Welcome!

Introduction

This is the 16th annual Welland Wonders event. As in previous years the event is governed by audax uk, a long-distance cycling club which provides insurance, documentation and handles the entries. Audax events are organised by different cycle clubs right across the UK. This one is organised by Welland Valley Cycle Club, based in Market Harborough. New for this year is the 200km ride which includes ‘Terrace Hill’, one of ‘Britain’s 100 Best Climbs’, and views of Belvoir Castle.

The rides, on quiet country roads, are intended to be leisurely – certainly not races.

All proceeds go to charity.

This year:

  • British Heart Foundation
  • Air Ambulance
  • SANDS
  • Whizz Kids (Bike training for young people in the Harborough area)

The Rides

Each year riders comment on the beauty of the landscape and those from farther afield are surprised to find the area quite hilly!

There are four routes, nominally 50, 110, 160 & 200km. (33, 68, 100 & 125 miles).  They are not signed so you need to be prepared! Check the routes online or manually. There are links below to route sheets, online maps and gpx files to make preparation easier.

You will have a card to record your progress. There will be ‘information controls’ asking you to record a detail nearby, e.g. the number on the audax ‘Control’ notice.

All rides start and finish at the Husbands Bosworth Millennium Sports Pavilion, on the left, 300 metres west of Husbands Bosworth (towards Lutterworth).

Check the route information below before entering.

Support

Thanks to all those who, each year, give freely of their time to make this event a success.

Including …

IMPORTANT – COVID PROTOCOLS

Cycle events require the support of a wide variety of stakeholders, including the general public and the providers of village halls, etc.  As in all aspects of cycling, it is important for the reputation and perception of the sport, and of its clubs, that in addition to doing the right thing, everyone is also seen to be doing the right thing.

Current Government guidelines emphasise that Coronavirus remains a serious health risk and that we should stay cautious to help protect ourselves and others.  Accordingly, the following protocols will apply to the Welland Wonders Audax 2021, these are aimed at ensuring a safe environment for riders and for our many volunteers:

– Competitors MUST NOT attend the event if they are feeling unwell in ANY way

– An elevated heart rate or an exceptionally quick-to-react heart rate during warm up can suggest an underlying asymptomatic illness of some kind.  If this happens to you, DO NOT start the race.  A refund will be provided in these circumstances.

– Entry to the building will be solely for signing on or for the use of toilets.  Riders are asked to change in their vehicles or elsewhere and not to use the hall for socialising.  Please stay outside as far as possible.

– Riders are asked to wear masks whilst inside the building.

– Hand sanitiser will be available for use at signing on.

– Refreshments will be available and will be served for consumption outside.

– Payment for catering will be by card/phone.  Cash will not be accepted
